‘Twas the week before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;
But in Holm Nursery the excitment was high
with songs about Santa and lots of mince pies
there was glitter and glitter and glitter again
as the children all created their gingerbread men
So we close the year showing your children having a ball
And wish a huge Merry Chistmas to one and all!
To begin our final week at nursery for this year we made a Countdown to Christmas chart. We can talk about how many days we have left at nursery and are learning about counting backwards from 5 to 1.
Making our Countdown to Christmas chart.
Monday – 5 days to go!
we can all make 5 with out fingers.
On our countdown we cover the days up so we know how many days we have left at nursery.
A few days later and only 2 days left!
Look there’s a letter!!
It’s from an elf!
It looks like we have all been so good there might be some a treat for us…..
….but we have to follow the clues hunt it down!
Clue 1, we have to find the Everywhere Bear.
Another clue, it’s number 2.
We’ve to look for a Polar bear in the field.
We found it!
And another clue, we have to find a penguin in the sensory garden.
Another find and another clue.
We needto look for a Christmas tree near Mrs Thomson’s office.
And Mrs Thomson.
Number 5. Now we need to find a bear wearing a Santa hat.
Here it is!
What’s inside the hat?
A present for us!
Chocolate coins for everyone i hope.
Just to check we counted them all.
And as we we still haven’t had any snow we made our own!
We started off with an empty tray
And a tub of powedery stuff!
The instructions said we have to measure out some powder then pour in some water
So we did.
The powder turned into snow
Then we made more.
The children have been taking over the Nursery and introducing new areas to their play. Having finished with the Santa Work Shop they developed their own ideas for the last few days of the term. Somewhere they can let their hair down!
The girls decided to reinvent Santa’s Workshop Office to a Concert booking office and that’s where their work began.
First a stage was needed and then checked by the stage manager!
It passed the health and safety test!
Next we needed chairs and these ones worked pretty well.
The office needed changing and moving with some extra bits added – tickets, tills and of course clip boards!
Next was a big sign.
That was easy and had already been chosen.
“The Rudolf Show”
A flip chart shows who is on the venue for the day.
And the children signed up quickly.
Let the show begin!
All working well.
Everyone bought tickets and the shows are a great success.
And it wasn’t just the children who joined in!
The children have been learning Makaton this term and this has been supported by our Makaton Advent Calendar which we open each day and find a new sign to learn. Today we used the buzzers to see if we can remember them!
The children chose their buzzers.
But had to listen to the question first
And when they knew the answer
They buzzed as quickly as they could!
All the children are really getting to know the Christmas signs.
“Great game, can we play again!”
We worked together to draw a BIG Christmas picture. This was an opportunity for the children to use their imaginations and show us in picture form what their thoughts are about Christmas.
I’ve drawn Santa’s sleigh, the elves ride it and the friendly dragon pulls it.
Santa is sleepingbecause he has done lots of hard work
My Santa has got an orange suit on.
I’ve got a big tall Santawith big long legs.
I’ve drawn a bedroom full ofchildren and they are all sleeping.
Now plenty sellotape to stick the picture up
Some of the children came up with the idea of making a walking line between the Turtle and Bear Room, this was to help people to walk rather than run in the corridor. The children actually planned this full activity themselves, firstly, thinking about how they could make the line. The answer was of course to cut up pieces of paper and selloptape them along the floor.Although no line would be complete without a bit of colour and a sign.
Finally, from all staff at the nursery we would like to thank you for all of the lovely cards and gifts and to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
