We are delighted to welcome 3 students from UHI to Holm Primary.
They will be working in the ELCC building and Primary 1 for 2 days a week for the rest of the session.
As part of their studies for HNC in childhood practice, they are required to undertake observations of their children during daily activities as a method of enabling them to develop their practice and gather evidence for tasks and assessment.
To respect parents individual preferences and prevent the risk of sensitive information being available out with the placement setting, in line with the General Data Protection Regulations (2018) and Confidentiality policies and procedures we ask that parents notify us if they would prefer that their child/children is/are not included in any of the student’s work.
Nursery parents have already signed permissions for this as part of enrolment.
Please be reassured that the students will be upholding the SSSC Codes of Practice (2016) in order to maintain professional standards and quality practice throughout their placement.
Please contact Mrs Webb if you have any questions.
We have enjoyed another busy, fun filled week of learning in Primary 1.
We loved going out to look for signs of Autumn. What beautiful colours we found! This inspired some great writing!
Lots of us were very excited to wear our PJ’s to school today. We enjoyed tasty snacks, and fun games! Well done to everyone who help raised money for Stand Up for Sophia. Looking forward to hearing the grand total soon!
We loved using long crepe paper streamers in class today to warm up our finger and arm muscles ready for handwriting!
We have been trying really hard to remember our gentle hands in P1. To help with this we have been exploring positive touch and learning how to give a partner a massage to help them relax. We must always ask for our partners permission 1st.
Maybe P1 could give family a Twinkle Twinkle Little Star or Pizza massage over the weekend.
We have been working well in our maths and phonics groups this week. We have group managers to lead the group and are doing so well at working independently while the teacher is with another group.
Primary 1 had an exciting and busy 3 days this week.
On Wednesday the children all settled back into classroom routines so well after their long weekend. We were working hard on taking our pencils for a walk and carefully completing some pencil control work. We have been learning about how to be a good friend. The children sorted pictures of friendly and unfriendly behaviors which generated great paired discussion.
“Good friends help each other.” Rebecca
“Unfriendly people say unkind things.” Autumn
Good friends play together and share.” Joshua YM
Thursday was an exciting day! We had a visit from Indigenous Drummers. We went to a whole school assembly to meet the drummers. We loved seeing so many smiling and mesmerised faces while the children watched the drummers and tried so hard to keep a beat. We also had so much fun taking part in class drumming and dancing workshops. It was great to see the children being so enthusiastic learning new skills.
“The beat went all over my body!” Owen
“I liked the drums. The were loud!” Robbie
“The dancing made me really hot!” Lucia
“The dancing was fun!” Ellie
“Everyone had to play the drums together. I liked the music.” Finlay
In the afternoon we thought about what it feels like to be angry. We learned some strategies to help us be calm. We enjoyed using feathers and our fingers to practice calm breathing. We also tried some Cosmic Kids yoga to help us stretch out and relax.
We had a visit from Mrs Bradley who takes the school choir. She is going to be visiting our class regularly to help us learn some new songs. We loved the Loopy Lou song and actions!
In gym we are practicing our ball skills and focussed so well to roll and throw a ball with our partners.
Thank you for another great week!
We hope you all have a fab weekend!
